This course on professional ethics aims to introduce the students to the concepts and principles of ethical behavior in various contexts of business and society. The course will cover the following topics:<ol><li>Meaning and Nature of Ethics: This topic will explore the definitions, scope and sources of ethics, as well as the relationship between ethics and morality, law and religion.</li><li>Importance of Ethics: This topic will examine the reasons and benefits of ethical conduct for individuals, organizations and society, as well as the challenges and dilemmas of ethical decision making.</li><li>Types of Ethics: This topic will classify the different approaches and theories of ethics, such as deontological, teleological, virtue, feminist and environmental ethics, and their applications to various ethical issues.</li><li>Factors Influencing Business Ethics: This topic will analyze the internal and external factors that affect the ethical behavior of business entities, such as organizational culture, leadership, stakeholders, laws, regulations and social norms.</li><li>Corporate Ethics: This topic will discuss the role and responsibility of corporations in promoting ethical values and practices, as well as the tools and mechanisms for ensuring corporate accountability and transparency, such as codes of ethics, corporate governance, whistle-blowing and social audits.</li><li>Gandhian Philosophy of Ethical Behavior: This topic will introduce the students to the principles and ideals of Mahatma Gandhi's philosophy of non-violence, truth, justice and service, and their relevance and implications for contemporary business and society.</li><li>Developing Business System Ethics: This topic will provide the students with the skills and strategies for developing and implementing ethical policies and programs in business organizations, such as ethical leadership, ethical culture, ethical education and training, ethical communication and ethical performance evaluation.</li><li>Consumer Protection and Social Justice: This topic will address the ethical issues and challenges related to consumer rights, consumer protection laws, consumer awareness and consumer activism, as well as the concepts and dimensions of social justice, such as equality, equity, diversity and inclusion.</li><li>Types of Ethics according to Functions of Business: This topic will apply the ethical principles and theories to the specific functions and domains of business, such as marketing ethics, accounting ethics, finance ethics, human resource ethics and production ethics.</li><li>Ethical Value System: This topic will help the students to identify and articulate their own personal values and beliefs, as well as to recognize and respect the values and beliefs of others, in order to foster a culture of mutual understanding and cooperation in business and society.</li><li>Ethics and IPR: This topic will explore the ethical issues and controversies related to intellectual property rights (IPR), such as patents, copyrights, trademarks and trade secrets, as well as the legal frameworks and institutions for protecting IPR.</li><li>Indian and Global Case Studies: This topic will illustrate the application of ethical concepts and principles to real-life situations and scenarios in Indian and global contexts, using case studies from various sectors and industries.</li></ol>The course will use a combination of lectures, discussions, presentations, assignments, quizzes and exams to facilitate learning outcomes.
